Hello! Welcome to my personal newsletter, where I give updates on what I’ve been up to and what I’m struggling with.
The gist for this month is that:
I’m figuring out how to sustainably continue working on building something that uses “learn by explaining” as a core idea. Currently thinking about the primer fellowship, adult tutoring, and aristocratic tutoring.
I’m learning basic math and trying to make it addicting for myself (sort of exaggerating, but not entirely). Basically I want math to feel like playing video games. Main resource I've been using is "You Are A Mathematician". I always refer back to this message by Laurens Gunnarsen for guidance on how to approach math.
I'm making YouTube math videos, and collaborating with Aleph0. I'm deeply interested in the process by which videos go from idea to reality. I'm currently making a video on group theory, and I'm nearly done the script.
I hosted a learning retreat in Muskoka. I had an amazing time sharing ideas with great people. I want to host more retreats like it in the future. Something I would change for next time is that I realized that its very hard to focus on learning when you feel like you might be missing out on socializing. Based on a great recommendation from a friend, in future retreats I would enforce a 4h period of time with no socializing each day.
If you want to hear me explain what I’ve been up to, feel free to listen to me talk in this video!
One thing to note is that I recorded a podcast with Brennan Colberg with way more details about my thoughts and what I'm planning. Listen to it if you want to hear about my thoughts more in depth.
Thanks for checking in!
